Three amazing cups of ice cream from Treadwell’s

This week is the 3rd in a series of blog posts highlighting my top five ice cream stands in the North Shore area. This week, we’re showcasing a beloved institution: Treadwell’s Ice Cream, located at 46 Margin Street, Peabody, MA.

Treadwell’s has been a staple in the community since 1946, when Russ Treadwell, a World War II veteran, returned home from Europe and decided to open an ice cream stand. Nearly eight decades later, Treadwell’s is still thriving, a testament to the loyalty and love the community has for this sweet spot. It’s impossible to miss the large, iconic pink ice cream cone sign that proudly signals that you’ve arrived at Treadwell’s.

For those new to the area, Treadwell’s is not just an ice cream stand. It’s a local landmark, a nostalgic destination where families have been gathering for generations to enjoy delicious, homemade ice cream. I love recommending Treadwell’s to my clients, whether they’re new to Peabody or long-time residents who simply haven’t had a chance to experience its charm.

One of the things that makes Treadwell’s stand out is its extensive menu. From classic favorites like chocolate and vanilla to creative, seasonal flavors, there’s something for everyone. My personal recommendation? If you’re visiting in December, don’t miss out on their eggnog ice cream. It’s a smooth and festive treat that perfectly captures the holiday season. And in the fall, their pumpkin flavor is a must-try, especially around Thanksgiving. It’s one of those flavors that evokes all the warmth and coziness of the season.

Another thing I love about Treadwell’s is that it has become more than just an ice cream stand – it’s a part of the community. People from all over the North Shore make their way to this spot, especially during the summer, to enjoy a cone, sundae, or shake. It’s a place where memories are made, whether it’s a first date, a post-game treat for the kids, or just an excuse to enjoy some local flavor.

I also have a personal connection to Treadwell’s. Not too long ago, I had the pleasure of helping sell a home right around the corner. It was a special treat to work in a neighborhood so close to such a cherished institution. Knowing that the new homeowners would be just a short walk away from one of the best ice cream spots in the area added a little extra sweetness to the sale.
